Description

History of Dibek Coffee ☕

Dibek coffee is a traditional Turkish coffee style that dates back centuries in Anatolia. The name “dibek” comes from the large stone or wooden mortar called a dibek, where coffee beans were traditionally pounded by hand with a pestle instead of being finely ground with modern grinders.

This pounding process gives dibek coffee a coarser, softer texture and a milder, creamier taste compared to regular Turkish coffee. Historically, it was prepared in villages across Eastern and Southeastern Anatolia, where coffee beans were crushed in dibek mortars and often blended with ingredients like cardamom, carob, or cream powder to create a richer flavor.

Dibek coffee became part of the Ottoman coffee culture, served during gatherings, hospitality rituals, and special occasions. Today it remains popular across Turkey and the Middle East as a nostalgic, traditional coffee with a smoother taste and thick foam.
